398th Regimental Combat Team advances through Bitche.

A tank of CT 398 (Combat Team 398) leads a motorized column through Bitche, 16 March 1945. The Sherman M4A3E8, equipped with a 76mm gun, is from the 781st Tank Battalion, and is attached to CT 398 for Operation UNDERTONE, the Seventh Army's drive through the Westwall (Siegfried Line) and across the Rhine. The 375th Field Artillery Battalion, Company B, 325th Engineer Combat Battalion, and Company B, 325th Medical Battalion were the other principal elements of of the combined arms team, built around the 398th Infantry Regiment.
