2 April 1945: Infantrymen of F/399th Infantry Regiment meet French troops at a fork in the road on the way to Hockenheim, Germany. Although many of the soldiers of the 1st French Army were colonial troops from North or West Africa, these men appear to be from metropolitan France. Note the mix of uniforms and equipment: the poilus wear French helmets and overcoats; US combat boots or field shoes with leggings; and US M3 submachine guns and Model 1903 Springfield rifles.
